Many guests find a hotel on a booking site, then look it up to compare. If your own website is slow, hides the rates or sends the "Book now" button straight back to a booking site, they finish the booking where they started, and you pay the commission.
This grader checks your homepage for a "Book now" that stays on your own site or your own booking engine, pages for your rooms, and rates or "from" prices guests can see. It also runs Google's mobile speed test and checks tap-to-call, contact options, your address or a map, reviews and the hotel details Google reads.
Common issues we find on hotel sites
The main booking button links to a third-party booking site instead of your own booking engine.
Rooms are one long gallery with no page for each room type, so they can't rank in search.
No prices anywhere, so guests go back to a booking site to find them.
Heavy photo sliders make the homepage slow on mobile.
Questions about the website grader
Does a booking engine on another domain count as direct booking?
Yes, if it is your own booking engine (for example a hosted booking page from your hotel software). Links that send guests to a large booking site to complete the booking do not count as direct.
Why does showing rates matter?
Guests compare prices before they book. If they can see a "from" price or a rate on your site, they have less reason to leave and check a booking site.
How are hotels scored?
Google PageSpeed (mobile) is 35 points, the checks every business needs are 45, and 20 points come from hotel checks: book direct on your own site (8), room pages (7) and rates visible (5).
Is the hotel grader free?
Yes. You see your score and 3 biggest issues straight away, and the full report is emailed free if you ask for it.
Do you check the whole website?
We check your homepage and the links on it. It is a quick automated check, not a full audit, but it shows the issues that affect the most visitors.
