Image compressor — your questions answered
Short, direct answers to common questions.
- Is this image compressor free?
- Yes. It is completely free with no sign-up, no watermark and no file-size or resolution cap. You can compress as many images as you like and download them at full resolution.
- Are my images uploaded to a server?
- No. Compression happens entirely in your browser on an HTML canvas. Your images are read from your device and never leave it.
- How do I compress an image without losing quality?
- Keep the quality slider high (around 80–90%) and use JPG or WebP. You will usually cut the file size by half or more with no visible difference; lower the slider further only if you need a smaller file.
- Which format gives the smallest file?
- WebP usually produces the smallest files at the same quality, followed by JPG. PNG stays lossless and is best for graphics and transparency rather than photos.
- Can I compress many images at once?
- Yes. Add multiple images, set one quality level, and use Download all to save every compressed image one after another.
