Uber Eats Commission in Australia vs DoorDash (2026)

By MarketingToolsProHub Editorial Team  |  Last updated:  |  5 min read

How much commission does Uber Eats charge Australian restaurants?

Uber Eats Australia charges 30% when Uber delivers, 16% when you deliver and 8% for pickup, plus a $700 activation fee, all excluding GST. DoorDash charges 30% for delivery and 15% for pickup, with no activation fee. Menulog no longer operates in Australia, so these are now the two main marketplaces.

In brief

How do Uber Eats and DoorDash commissions compare in Australia?

Commission rates are approximate, based on published pricing at the time of writing. Your actual rates depend on your contract with each app.

What does a restaurant keep from one $40 order on each app?

Here is one $40 order (before GST) at the published rates. GST on the fees, promotions and refunds would come off on top.

Worked example using Uber Eats Australia and DoorDash Australia published rates. Illustrative, not a quote.

DoorDash, Dasher delivers (30%)$12.00$28.00

Uber Eats Webshop pickup (6%)$2.40$37.60
DoorDash Online Ordering (1.75% + $0.30)$1.00$39.00

Delivery costs the same headline 30% on both apps; the real differences are in pickup (8% on Uber Eats against 15% on DoorDash) and in ordering through your own website.

What other fees can Australian restaurants pay?

Commission is the biggest cost, but not the only one:

Over a year: as an illustration, a restaurant with 100 app-delivered orders a week at $40 pays $1,200 a week in commission at 30%, or $62,400 a year before GST. Moving 20 of those orders a week to Uber Eats pickup (8%) would save $176 a week, or about $9,150 a year. Run the same sum with your own order numbers.

When are delivery apps worth it for Australian restaurants?

When they bring customers who wouldn't otherwise find you, and your kitchen has capacity when their orders arrive. With Menulog gone, listing on both Uber Eats and DoorDash reaches the most app users, but each listing carries its own commission and activation terms.

They're worth less for regulars who already know you; those are the orders pickup and your own website can win back. Our guide to reducing delivery app commissions covers each lever.

Do you pay GST on delivery app commission?

Uber Eats quotes its Australian fees excluding GST, and GST is 10% on most goods and services, so a 30% commission costs 33% of the order before any GST credits. If you're registered for GST, you may be able to claim credits for the GST on these fees; ask your accountant.

What does ordering through your own website cost in Australia?

Both apps sell tools for ordering on your own site, at much lower rates than their marketplaces: DoorDash's Online Ordering has no commission and charges 1.75% + $0.30 for card processing, and Uber Eats' Webshop charges 6% for pickup. You still need a website people can find and use on a phone. Our guide to what a restaurant website costs covers the options, and our guide to reducing delivery app commissions covers how to move regulars to it.
