Motel & Inn Website Design: What Road Travelers Need
By MarketingToolsProHub Editorial Team | Last updated: | 6 min read
What should motel website design focus on?
Motel website design should focus on a fast, phone-first booking path: tonight's availability, the total price, room photos, and the practical details road travelers check, such as parking for trucks and trailers, check-in times, pet policy and directions from the highway. Style matters, but clear information and a working "Book now" matter more.
- Many motel guests decide on the road: design for phones, same-day booking and tap-to-call.
- Answer the practical questions up front: parking, check-in, pets, Wi-Fi, breakfast and directions.
- Booking engines range from Sirvoy's free one-room plan to bundles such as Little Hotelier from $179 USD a month.
- In the US, the FTC's fees rule covers hotels, motels and inns: show the total price, including mandatory fees, up front.
- ADA rules require lodging reservations to describe accessible features in enough detail for guests to judge for themselves.
What should a motel website include?
| Feature | Why it matters | How to check it |
|---|---|---|
| "Book now" and tonight's availability | Many guests book on the day | Can you book tonight in under a minute on a phone? |
| Total price | Surprise fees lose bookings and break pricing rules | Does the first price shown include mandatory fees? |
| Parking details | Trucks, trailers, boats and EV charging decide the stay | Is there a clear parking section with photos? |
| Check-in and after-hours arrival | Late arrivals need to know how to get a key | Are office hours and late check-in steps on the site? |
| Pet policy | A common deal-breaker | Fees, limits and pet-friendly rooms stated |
| Directions and map | Guests arrive from the highway | Is there a "Get directions" button and the nearest exit? |
| Room photos by type | Honest photos set expectations | Every room type shown, with bed type |
| Accessible room details | Guests need facts to choose a room | Features listed for each accessible room |

How should a motel website work for guests on the road?
- Put booking first: a date picker that defaults to tonight, and a sticky "Book now" button on every page.
- Make calling easy: a tap-to-call number in the header for guests who'd rather phone.
- Load quickly on a weak signal: compress photos and avoid heavy video on the home page.
- Show the essentials in one screen: price from, parking, pets, check-in time.
- Send a clear confirmation with the address, a map link, check-in steps and the phone number.
Which booking engine fits a motel?
Most motels need a booking engine with a channel manager, so a room sold on Expedia or Booking.com disappears from your own site straight away. Our comparison of booking engines for small hotels covers more vendors.
| Option | Published price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sirvoy Free / Starter / Pro | €0 / €12 / €44 a month for 1 room | 0% booking commission; Pro adds the channel manager |
| Little Hotelier Pro | From $179 USD a month, excluding tax | Channel manager, booking engine and calendar; website builder is an add-on |
| Custom website + your booking engine | One-off build | A site designed around your motel, with the engine handling rates |
Use each vendor's calculator with your real room count before comparing, and ask whether any per-booking fee applies.
How does a motel get found on Google and maps?
- Google Business Profile: correct name, address, phone, check-in times and photos, linked to your website.
- Free booking links: Google says your booking site can appear across Google at no cost, and your reservation system may already be able to connect you.
- Reviews: ask happy guests at checkout, and reply to reviews, good and bad.
- Local pages: nearby attractions, events and the highway or route you're on, which travelers search for.
What pricing and accessibility rules apply to motel websites?
- United States, total price: the FTC's Rule on Unfair or Deceptive Fees, effective May 12, 2025, covers short-term lodging at a hotel, motel or inn. Prices you show must include mandatory fees the business knows about up front; some charges, such as taxes, can be disclosed later but before payment.
- United States, accessible rooms: the ADA Title III regulations (28 CFR 36.302(e)) require places of lodging to identify and describe accessible features of the hotel and guest rooms through their reservations service, in enough detail for guests to assess them independently.
- Canada: the Competition Bureau says drip pricing raises concerns under the Competition Act unless the added charges are imposed by government, such as sales tax.
- Australia: the ACCC says businesses must display a total price including taxes and unavoidable fees, as a single figure.

Is an inn website different from a motel website?
Often, yes. An inn usually sells character as well as convenience: the building, breakfast, a bar or restaurant, and the hosts. Keep the practical motel essentials, then add a short story, food and drink pages, and a local guide. In Australia and New Zealand, a "motor inn" usually sits between the two, so lead with convenience and add the extras you offer.
What mistakes do motel websites often make?
- No way to book tonight, or a booking engine that only shows dates from tomorrow.
- Resort, parking or pet fees added at the last step.
- Old photos that don't match the rooms after a renovation.
- No mention of parking for trucks, trailers or RVs, so guests call or go elsewhere.
- Accessible rooms listed without any detail.
- Hours, phone numbers and check-in steps that differ between the site and Google.
What does a motel website cost?
With us, a motel or inn website connected to your existing booking engine is our Custom Business Website, from $5,000. With a booking system built in, it's our Website + Booking System, from $7,500. You get a fixed written quote after a free discovery call, it typically takes around 2 months, and you own the site and domain once paid.
These are approximate figures based on published pricing and industry reports at the time of writing. Your actual cost depends on your scope and will be confirmed after a free discovery call with us.
Our guide to hotel website costs compares builders, booking engines and custom builds over three years, and our OTA commission guide shows what each direct booking saves.

Frequently asked questions
Summary
A motel website should get road travelers from search to booked in a minute: tonight's availability, the total price, parking, pets, check-in and directions. Booking engines start from free for one room, Google's free booking links help guests find your direct rate, and in the US the FTC's fees rule and the ADA reservations rule shape how prices and accessible rooms are shown.
