Mechanic Shop Website With Online Booking: A Guide
By MarketingToolsProHub Editorial Team | Last updated: | 9 min read
What does a mechanic shop website with online booking need?
A mechanic shop website with online booking needs a short booking form that asks for the vehicle, the problem and whether the customer will wait or drop off, connected to your shop software. Add a page for each main service, your certifications and warranty, tap-to-call for breakdowns, and the same booking link on Google.
- Booking form: year, make and model, mileage, the symptom, drop-off or wait, and an optional VIN.
- Shop software with online booking: Tekmetric lists it under a Marketing add-on; Mitchell 1 shows no price for Manager SE.
- One page per service: brakes, oil changes, diagnostics, tires, AC, and so on.
- Trust: ASE certification means a passed test plus hands-on work experience; state warranties and loaners only if you offer them.
- UK shops take MOT bookings (maximum car MOT fee £54.85); Australian rules on roadworthy and safety checks differ by state.
What should a mechanic shop website include?
The things a driver with a warning light on the dash looks for, in order:
| Page or feature | Why it matters | How to check it |
|---|---|---|
| Book online and tap-to-call | Some people book at night; others need to talk now | Both visible without scrolling, on every page |
| Services you do | "Do they fix my problem, on my car?" | One page per main service, and the makes you work on |
| Hours, address and map | People drop cars off on the way to work | Opening hours, early drop-off and key drop rules |
| Trust | Repairs are a big, hard-to-judge spend | Certifications, warranty, reviews, real photos of the shop and team |
| What to expect | Reduces "how long and how much?" calls | Diagnostic process, how you send estimates, approval before work |
| Extras you really offer | Can swing the decision | Shuttle, loaner cars, waiting room Wi-Fi: only if true |
For auto repair and other local business websites we build, see our custom local business websites page. Our local business website checklist covers the basics every local site needs.
Breakdowns, towing and after-hours drop-offs
- Breakdowns: a "Broken down? Call us" line with tap-to-call at the top of the page. Online forms are too slow for someone at the roadside.
- Towing: say whether you tow, or which tow companies you work with, and what customers should tell the driver.
- After-hours key drop: explain where the drop box is, what to write on the envelope, and link it to the drop-off option in the booking form.
- Warning lights: a short page on which lights mean "stop driving" and which can wait for a booking, written by your technicians.
What should a mechanic shop's online booking form ask?
Enough to book the right bay time and order parts, and no more. A form that asks for everything gets abandoned.
- Service: pick from a short list (oil change, brakes, diagnostics, tires, AC, inspection) or "something else, describe it".
- Vehicle: year, make and model from dropdowns, plus engine or trim if it changes the parts.
- Mileage: roughly, so you can suggest due maintenance.
- VIN (optional): helps you order the right parts, but don't make it required; many people don't know it by heart. In the UK, a registration number is easier for customers to give.
- What's happening: a free-text box with prompts (noises, warning lights, when it happens) and an optional photo or video.
- Drop off or wait: waiting appointments need a fixed time; drop-offs need a drop-off window and a pick-up estimate.
- Transport: shuttle or loaner request, only if you offer one, and with any conditions shown.
- Contact preference: text or call for the estimate and approval.
- Confirmation: what happens next, your diagnostic fee if you charge one, and how to reschedule.
Make clear that an online booking is a request for a time, and that you'll confirm the price before any work starts.
Should website booking connect to your shop management software?
If your shop already runs on management software, yes: bookings should land in the same calendar your service advisors use, so no one has to retype them. The website's job is to send clean bookings in, not to replace the software.
| Option | Starting price | Online booking |
|---|---|---|
| Tekmetric Start | $179 a month billed annually, or $199 month to month (USD) | Listed under the Marketing add-on, $345 a month per shop |
| Shopmonkey Basic | $215 a month paid annually, or $239 month to month (USD) | Pricing page lists calendar appointments, reminders and a work request form on every plan: ask how customers book from your website |
| Mitchell 1 Manager SE | Price on request (demo and sales consultant) | Ask: the page lists appointment scheduling for the shop |
| Standalone booking widget | Varies by tool | Works without shop software, but bookings must be retyped |
| Booking form built into your site | Part of a one-off build | Asks the fields above and sends them to your calendar or software |
Before choosing, ask your software vendor three things: can customers book from a link on your website, can you choose which fields they fill in, and can you set how many cars you accept per day.
Which service pages and trust details does an auto repair website need?
One page per service people search for, each with what's included, a typical time for the job, and a booking button for that service:
- Oil change and scheduled maintenance
- Brakes (pads, rotors, fluid)
- Check engine light and diagnostics
- Tires, alignment and suspension
- Air conditioning and heating
- Batteries, starting and charging
- Transmission, engine and electrical repairs, if you do them
- State or national inspections where they apply (see the UK and Australia notes below)
Show prices only where they're fixed, such as an oil change or a diagnostic fee, and say what changes them (oil type, vehicle size). For repairs, explain how you diagnose and quote instead of guessing a number. If you specialize in certain makes, give each its own page.
How a repair shop builds trust on its website
- Certifications: in the US and Canada, many shops show ASE certification. ASE says that to become certified you must pass an ASE test and have relevant hands-on work experience, and credentials are valid for five years. Shops can also be recognized through ASE's Blue Seal program. List only certifications your team actually holds, and keep them current.
- Warranty: state your parts and labor warranty in plain words, including what it covers and for how long, only if it's your real policy.
- Courtesy cars, loaners and shuttles: mention them only if you offer them, with any conditions (booking ahead, insurance, distance).
- How you work: photos or videos of the problem sent before you repair, and no work without approval, if that's how you operate.
- Reviews and real photos: your bays, team and vans, not stock images.
Our guide to a website builder versus a custom site covers what's easier to add on each.
What changes for UK MOT and Australian roadworthy bookings?
Inspections are booked differently outside the US, and the website should reflect the local rules.
| Market | What the official pages say | What it means for the website |
|---|---|---|
| UK (MOT) | First MOT by the third anniversary of registration, then yearly. Book up to a month (minus a day) early and keep the same renewal date. Only MOT test centres with the blue sign with 3 white triangles can test. Maximum fee for a car £54.85. | An MOT booking option with your price (at or below the maximum), a reminder that early booking keeps the renewal date, and MOT plus service combos if you offer them |
| Australia: NSW | Most light vehicles more than 5 years old need a yearly safety inspection report (pink slip), done only at an Authorised Inspection Scheme station. Reports are valid for 6 months. | If you're an authorized inspection station, a pink slip booking option and a note on what happens if the car fails |
| Australia: Victoria | A roadworthy certificate is needed in cases such as selling or re-registering a vehicle, and only a licensed vehicle tester can issue one. | Roadworthy bookings only if you're licensed; say how long the inspection takes |
Other Australian states use their own schemes and names (for example, Queensland's safety certificates), so link your state's official page rather than summarizing the rules yourself. Rules change, so check them before you publish.
How does a mechanic shop get bookings from Google?
Often from Google Maps and the local results. Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and popularity, and reviews feed into popularity.
- Add your own booking link, or a supported booking provider, to your Business Profile, pointing to the same booking page as your website.
- Choose the right categories and list your main services on the profile, each linked to its page on your site.
- Keep hours accurate, including early drop-off and holiday closures.
- Ask for reviews after pick-up and reply to them.

What does a mechanic shop website with online booking cost?
It depends on the number of service pages and locations, and whether booking is a widget from your shop software or a form built into the site. Budget separately for your shop software subscription, shown in the table above.
A repair shop that only needs services, hours and a booking link can start on a do-it-yourself website builder for less. Wix plans run from about $17 to $39 a month billed annually (Light to Business) and Squarespace plans from about $19 to $49 a month (Basic to Plus), as reported by Website Builder Expert for US plans in 2026. Our breakdown of small business website costs sets builders against freelancers and agencies over three years.
With us, a mechanic shop website that links to your shop software's booking starts at $5,000 (Custom Business Website), or $7,500 with a booking system built in (Website + Booking System). You get a fixed written quote after a free discovery call, it typically takes around 2 months, and you own the website, code, domain and content once paid. We work across US, Canadian, UK, European and Australian time zones.
These are approximate figures based on published pricing at the time of writing. Your actual cost depends on your scope and will be confirmed after a free discovery call with us.
See it in action: our local business website demo (a demo, not a client project) shows services, price ranges, an inquiry form and one-tap call and WhatsApp on a phone.
Frequently asked questions
Summary
A mechanic shop website with online booking should ask for the vehicle, mileage, the problem and drop-off or wait, feed bookings into your shop software (Tekmetric lists online booking in a Marketing add-on, Mitchell 1 prices on request), and support the decision with service pages, real certifications and an honest warranty. UK shops should handle MOT bookings, and Australian shops their state's inspection rules. Put the same booking link on your Google Business Profile.
